THE BRIEF
Turn a forgotten side yard into a destination.
The passage between the kitchen and garden gate had become a dead strip used for bins and little else. The owners wanted a private spot to sit for ten minutes with a coffee, without feeling boxed in by the boundary fences.
THE RESPONSE
A warm, scented pause between two doors.
CHALLENGE / RESULT
The yard was narrow, shaded for half the day, and doubled as a bin store. We widened the usable strip with a built-in bench, softened the boundary with a cedar screen, and chose paving that reads warm even without direct sun. Scented planting along the bench makes the short walk through worth taking.
CLIENT NOTE
We never expected to sit out there, and now it's where we have coffee every morning.
